Measure what can change a decision
Remote sensing is most valuable when it closes an information gap that delays service, maintenance or resource management. That means choosing a decision first, defining the observable condition, then building a measurement and response path that can be tested. More data is not automatically better if it creates no action or interpretation capability.
Design for the realities of the field
Remote sites experience intermittent connectivity, limited power, difficult access and changing environmental conditions. Useful systems buffer data, expose health signals, preserve event time, allow controlled maintenance and leave a commissioning record. They also state what the sensor cannot prove.
Keep outcomes separate from telemetry
A functioning sensor is not the same as a functioning pump, a functioning pump is not the same as water being available when needed, and availability alone does not prove water quality. Good monitoring keeps these layers distinct while making it easier to connect the evidence needed for a real service decision.

- Failure diagnosis before dispatch.
- Verified outcome before ticket closure.
- Published evidence before claims of impact.
